A teenage youth was found dead just days after being wrongly accused of taking the ashes of a dead baby during a break-in, an inquest has heard.

Tragic Finding

Kai Lloyd's parents found his body in his room at his Flintshire home on November 19th, 2021.

False Allegations Start

The inquest learned how his mother received a communication on 8 November 2021 via online platforms, from a woman asking if Kai was her offspring. The communication added: "Tell him thanks for breaking into my apartment."

In a statement read to the proceedings, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the media, claiming her infant's remains had been stolen in a burglary - a claim which was false.

Law Enforcement Investigation

An investigation report from police later concluded the supposed break-in victim had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that said property was never taken in the first place".

News coverage about the alleged taken remains attracted social media responses, and although Kai was not named in the posts, his parent said people "knew it was him".

The "social media content were extremely distressing", she said.

Mental Health Impact

She added that her son had been diagnosed with moderate ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other individuals' views genuinely mattered to him.

"It would have affected him severely," she commented, "especially when this was not true".

The teenager was arrested at his residence, but nothing was found. He was transported to a law enforcement facility and later freed under investigation.

Authorities said they would be in contact, the inquest learned, but had not reached out to the family by the moment of his death.

Isolation and Anxiety

His mother said her son "became isolated" after the arrest and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the authorities", because his ADHD meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like days".

When she talked to him about the alleged incident, she said her child told her he had entered the house because the resident who resided there had said he could use the bathroom whenever he needed, but denied removing anything.

Online Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her husband, the mother said her child was being bullied online after the allegations.

The proceedings heard that a 19-year-old encouraged Kai to end his life.

She had no concerns on the night before he passed away, describing how she had listened to him "chuckling and joking".

She described him as a "caring, affectionate" boy, and said her "family is completely shattered".

He had been "clearly hiding his concerns", she said, noting that he could not stand to have anyone "have negative thoughts of him".

School Reaction

The hearing received testimony from educational staff at Connah's Quay secondary school.

On November 8th, she "overheard some boys discussing that Kai had been detained and that was the initial I heard".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she added.

After the discussion, the staff member said she called the family's parents' telephone and left a message saying she had communicated to Kai about the accusations.

The proceedings heard his parents said they did not receive that communication.

Formal Finding

Senior coroner informed the inquest he would wait for documents regarding what enhancements had been made to handling individuals with the condition, before deciding whether he should make a prevention of subsequent deaths report.

Providing a descriptive finding, he said: "Around 8 November 2021, unsupported accusations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a young child.

"Likely untruths were afterwards embellished and exaggerated through the platform of social media.

"On November 11th, he was interviewed by the police and after his questioning he was released whilst inquiries continued."

The coroner determined: "There is no proof that the acts or omissions of any agency caused or contributed to his passing and although it was the result of a personal action it is impossible to determine his intent."
